Doesnt want to work on my 16G iPod Touch

Tapping the icon brings up the same pose, which lasts for about 3 seconds after which the screen reverts back to the apps icons page. Ive tried deleting it from both my laptop and iPod and then downloading a new copy, but this doesnt seem to help. Has anyone else had this problem? (Version 1.0 of software is often plagued by such problems.)
